THEN AND NOW: Walt at Disneyland
Posted by Mitch
Disneyland, U.S.A.
Walt Disney walked just about everywhere in Disneyland. We set out to find some of the exact locations he stood while being photographed...

A couple of notes:
Check out the rock Walt sat on during the Opening Day filming. The same rock is still there today! It's been added to but the same little details remain. Photo: http://bit.ly/MNninO
Notice Monstro's original sharper whale teeth.
The photo of the monorail pillar isn't the exact pillar. Thar be a lot of stuff in front of those pillars today (bus stations, etc.) making it difficult to capture an exact match.
Well done! I love posts like this.
This made me sad. You could sense Walt fading away and vanishing completely and then have the photo turn to present day color. It also reminds me of Disneyland vacations our family enjoyed many decades ago. I can envision how my Dad (who has since passed on) was standing in those same places as Walt himself. Comforting to know that the places themselves still physically exist even tho the loved ones have left us forever. Vey haunting and very moving at the same time. Thank you.
What a FANTASTIC post!!
This is incredible, thank you so much for this.
I thought this was the BEST "Then and Now" segment yet!!! Can't wait for more to come!!!
Wow. It's almost sad to see the THEN & NOW here. What a well put together post. It's incredible to see just how little or how much has changed over the years.
Awesome job!
That was a wonderful retrospective! Thank you!
Love the side by side images.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
Love it! And what I find the most fascinating for some reason, is how the trees have grown.
That was awesome. I kind of wish the same thing could be done with Florida, but nothing would be recognizable. Maybe places where Roy was photographed?
The trees must be blocking it today, but I never before noticed the tower on the back of the Main Street Firehouse. I'm trying to think of what could be up there - an air conditioning unit or a water heater for Walt's apartment?

Maybe do this with Tom Hanks as Walt in the spot as it is today. Surprised the original Bank Of America still has the same window awning canopies. With todays tech maybe they could make a video of Walt walking disneyland today as he used to do.
It would seem safe to say the petrified tree is the oldest attraction in any Disney Park, or possibly the real 100 tons of Gold Ore found and relocated to Big Thunder Mountain Disneyland and another 100 tons to Walt Disney World. Rusty
How likely is it that minor details in the pictures (e.g. the railing Walt's leaning on surrounding the petrified tree, the stair railing from the hut, and the railing he's leaning on looking out into the square) are the exact same ones?
It is the awesome place to visit in order to make goodies. The Bank of America is ordered to make canopies. The Disney Land is beautiful from old times.
