As D23's Destination D: Walt Disney World 40th at the Walt Disney World Resort kicks off today, and since we are (sadly) not in attendance, we bring you these rare EPCOT Center construction photos.
Destination D celebrates WDW's 40th anniversary this year. These pics were taken only some 30 years ago but they feature what we consider the second-most important milestone in WDW history.

Great photos. I hadn't seen a few of these before, especially the rear view of American Adventure looking at Spaceship Earth.
The scariest thing about these is how close they were to opening day. For example, the shot of Spaceship Earth, Energy and World of Motion with only half of Communicore built was from early summer... and the park opened in late September!
First of all, where do you get these pictures?
It's amazing what some imagination and a few billion dollars can do to some everglade-like ground in the middle of Orlando. Epcot is, by-far, the best park in Disney World.
Steve- So true. How remarkable is that?? The American Adventure shot you mentioned is great for many reasons-- one being a partially-filled lagoon.
David- The pics were given to me, along with many others, while working on a project at Epcot a few years ago. Someone handed me a stack of 8x10s and said, "you might enjoy these". Most I've never seen anywhere else.
And yes.... Epcot rocks. Especially a few years back.

These are some of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen.
Just a small tidbit i wanted to reply with, something I'm proud of; my great uncle was part of the construction crew that created that black balled wonder. Wanna know the funniest bit? He hasn't ever been back since it was finished.
Amazing photos. Your before, during, and after pictures are the #1 reason I visit regularly.
The World of Motion baggage car bright daylight is neat. Even the truck hauling it could be an antique prop at the studios now.

Loved these pictures. Even after being there on opening day and too many times to count since then it was still hard to get my bearings. I still enjoyed it and can't wait the next 89 days till our next trip.
Hello friends, I love Epcot a have the satisfaction to walks inside it, is like a tour around the word in just one place, these pictures could be added at park main in, with sayings "Here you can see the past, the present and the future! My congratulations to all that works in this amazing place, soon I'll back there, my daughter will love to know!
