Disneyland Jungle Cruise- 1965

The Jungle is starting to really fill out. At this point it's 10 years old. Fast forward 10 more years and we see here an even more mature Jungle.

Excellent photos taken by Jerry and Lorraine Kotler. The Kotlers also took these beautiful phots of Submarine Lagoon on the same trip.

Homemade Model of Disneyland- 1950s

Isn't this great?? This young man created a scale model of Disneyland using items found around the house. Much of the model is created from clay he made using mud from the yard. Look at the Jungle Cruise portion. I love it!

Next, the family is seen sitting in this little mystery spot. Can you guess where they are? The tiny blue tiles at the top of the photo made up the lower portion of Tomorrowland's World Clock. You know, the clock that would tell you the current time of any place in the world (except Newfoundland who is an hour and a half ahead of Eastern Standard Time for some reason).

A big thanks to Kathy Alatorre for sending these fantastic photos and to her brother who made the model.

MK Main Street and Keel Boats- 1986

A couple of great photos taken during Walt Disney World's 15th Anniversary.

Main Street U.S.A. still has West Center Street. House of Magic is looking good (tan with dark brown trim). The oval Tobacconist signage has just been replaced with Main Street Stationers signage. Coca-Cola Refreshment corner has yet to be renamed Casey's Corner.

Mike Fink Keel Boats still travel through Rivers of America. Here we get a fun view of a Keel Boat taken from the Keel Boat dock which still stands today (near the Haunted Mansion queue). The Liberty Belle Riverboat is still called Richard F. Irvine.

Meanwhile, over at EPCOT Center, the 15th Anniversary celebration continues with this.

Early Disneyland- Dates Unknown

Wonderful color photos sent in by Alfonso Martin who also sent these photos used in an earlier post.

The first photo was taken sometime after 1967 and definitely long before 1982. We see the newer version of Skyway buckets up top. There's a view of Skull Rock which we know was removed to make way for New Fantasyland in 1983

The second photo, taken on the same day, is great because we see the original-style Mickey Floral in the background and the Disneyland letters on top of the turnstyle awnings.

Notice the chain link fencing in both photos? It's something most people assume Disney would never have used, but they definitly did.

Rainy Day at Disneyland

I'm guessing these are from the early 80s. Perhaps late 70s. Look at all those early low top Nikes. Do you ever look at these photos and wonder if you might have been in the park on the same day??

In the third photo we see the spot that will later become the Pirates bridge.

A big thanks for more great photos, K. Robinson!

Magic Kingdom Main Street- c.1976

It's a beautiful morning at Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World is less than five years old.

Check out the Car Barn in the first photo. The Car Barn still looks very much the same today. But look to the right. The Car Barn architecture and colors no longer continue in that direction anymore. The Harmony Barber Shop was later moved to this location from West Center Street when The Emporium was expanded and Center Street was enclosed. The Barber Shop received its own architecture, style, and colors. Compare to this more recent photo

Mickey greets us in the second photo.

In the third photo we see the old castle stage. What is that guy doing up there?

Wonderful photos from Mathew Douglas. Thanks Mathew!

Contemporary Fake Trees- 1976

Remember when the Contemporary Resort Hotel was super... not tacky? Every piece, from the architecture to the lighting to the furniture, to the colors, to the artwork, to the murals, all fit nicely together. And those fake, designy, stylized trees!!

Stunning photos from Jennifer Jones.

Robin Hood- 1982, 1985, 1988

Robin Hood! What a great character. Great film. You don't see him walking around anymore. Unless of course you go to Tokyo Disneyland.

Wonderful photos. Photo 1 (1985) is from Dan Zuccarelli. Photos 2-3 (1982) and photos 4-5 (1988) are from Shaun Ortolano.

Jungle Cruise, Disneyland- 1975

Lions feasting outside of their rock den?? The rock formation we know today wasn't added until 1976. This lion scene was moved to the new rock the year after these photos were taken.

Thank you K. Robinson and family for these great pics!
